Ask most people where good cacao comes from and they will say South America or West Africa. Few mention Malaysia. Yet Malaysia was once one of the world’s biggest cocoa producers, before many farmers switched to oil palm. Today a small number of growers are bringing Malaysian cacao back, this time focused on flavour instead of volume.
We make single-origin bars from several of these farms. Single origin means all the cacao in a bar comes from one place, so you taste that place: its soil, its climate, and the way the farmer ferments and dries the beans.
Kuala Lipis, Pahang
Our most awarded origin. Kuala Lipis 71% received AVPA Gourmet awards in France in 2024 and 2026 and a Bronze at the Academy of Chocolate in the UK in 2025.
What it tastes like: cranberries, cinnamon and red fruits. Bright and fruity, with a gentle warmth of spice.
Chemor, Perak
Chemor 71% was one of our first Malaysian bars and has been recognised by AVPA in both 2022 and 2023. It is also the chocolate inside our award-winning Chocolate Date-licious.
What it tastes like: tropical fruits, orange zest and spices. Lively and citrusy.
Pengkalan Hulu, Perak
From the north of Perak, near the Thai border. Pengkalan Hulu 71% received an AVPA Gourmet award in 2024.
What it tastes like: dark cocoa, mangosteen and prune. The deepest and most chocolatey of the three.
Bera, Pahang
Bera 71% won AVPA Gourmet Silver in 2023.
Our Malaysian blends
Not every bar is a single origin. Malaysia Blend 65% brings several Malaysian cacaos together for a rounder, sweeter bar with notes of cherry and a subtle hint of maple syrup. Milk Malaysia 55% is our dark milk chocolate: berry notes, milky and smooth.
Why we work directly with farmers
We buy directly from the people who grow the cacao and pay for quality. Fermentation and drying happen on the farm, and they shape the flavour more than anything we do later, so the relationship with the farmer matters as much as the recipe.
Taste them side by side
The best way to understand origin is to taste two bars together. Same percentage, same maker, different farm. Shop our Malaysian single-origin bars and try it at home.
